A Note from Mr. Burris

Dear BCS Families,

As we enter our final week before Spring Break, I’ve been reflecting on the gift and importance of biblical rest. It is important that we distinguish biblical rest from the world’s idea of rest. The difference is not merely in what we do, but in our attitude and mindset as we step away from the busyness of everyday life.

From the very beginning, the Lord established a pattern for us:
“Thus the heavens and the earth were completed, and all their hosts. And on the seventh day God completed His work which He had done, and He rested on the seventh day from all His work which He had done. Then God blessed the seventh day and sanctified it, because on it He rested from all His work which God had created in making it.” — Genesis 2:1–3

God did not rest because He was weary. He rested to set an example for His people — a pattern of work flowing from rest, not exhaustion. He not only modeled rest, but commanded it:
“Remember the sabbath day, to keep it holy.” — Exodus 20:8

Too often, we pour all our energy into work and responsibilities, leaving little for our families, our church, or our neighbors. In His wisdom, the Lord gave us the sabbath as a gift — a reminder that we are sustained by Him, not by our own striving.

As you approach Spring Break, I encourage you to intentionally plan time for rest. For some, that may mean extra sleep. For others, it may mean time outdoors enjoying God’s creation, sharing unhurried meals with family, or quietly reading and reflecting on His goodness. Biblical rest is not inactivity for its own sake; it is restoration that reorients our hearts toward the Lord.

Charles Spurgeon said it well:
“Rest time is not waste time. It is economy to gather fresh strength… It is wisdom to take occasional furlough. In the long run, we shall do more by sometimes doing less.”

Ultimately, our deepest rest is found in Christ. What He accomplished on the cross frees us from striving to earn God’s favor. He Himself invites us:
“Come to Me, all you who labor and are heavy laden, and I will give you rest.” — Jesus (Matthew 11:28)

True, biblical rest begins and ends with the Person of Jesus. May this Spring Break be a time of rest for your bodies, rest for your minds, and worshipful rest for your souls.

With gratitude,

Cody Burris

The JH Disco Ball Dance was a huge success!

A big THANK YOU to our Senior Class, their amazing parents, and their class sponsor, Mrs. Woodard, for all the hard work that made the night so special. We are so grateful for the time, creativity, and heart you poured into this event!

And thank you to our JH parents for supporting our Senior Class! We couldn’t do it without you!

Mrs. Lunsford’s 1st Grade Class has been studying the life cycle of a chicken, and recently that lesson came to life in the most exciting way! Twenty-one days prior, they carefully placed eggs in their classroom incubator and began observing the process. Along the way, students candled the eggs and learned about each stage of development.

On Day 21, the waiting paid off! They welcomed nine baby chicks into their classroom! What an unforgettable hands-on learning experience.

And of course, Ms. Linda couldn’t resist naming the first two to hatch… please welcome Chewbacca and Yoda!

We love watching learning come to life at BCS!
