Job Description

Objective

We are looking for a 2nd grade teacher to join our team that is driven by a love for Jesus and His word. One who seeks to utilize his/her gifts of teaching to guide students in academic excellence and spiritual growth.

Overview

BCS is a Christian school in the southern Brazoria County area that has a longstanding tradition of discipling students in their walk with Jesus, while offering academic rigor, college readiness, and life skills to our student body. We love the Lord, depend on Him, and see our school as a ministry that provides us with many opportunities to glorify Him.

Mission

Brazosport Christian School exists to foster an environment of academic excellence with a biblical worldview, and equips students with qualities of knowledge, character, leadership and service to the glory of God.

Expectations

  • Prioritize being with Jesus instead of doing for Jesus
  • Honor your spouse (or close family/friends) as your greatest work
  • Strive to work from your rest and not rest from your work
  • Implement steps toward participating in a sabbath rest
  • Open and honest communication
  • Hold a hospitable and welcoming demeanor
  • Be adaptable and refrain from reacting in emotion
  • Timeliness to tasks/meetings
  • Lead with a posture of listening
  • Refusing to assume or bear false witness to a person or a situation – ask questions and walk in what is factual and true
  • Work toward maintaining unity of the admin lead team and campus as a whole
  • Regularly commune with a body of Christ followers
  • Follow the Matthew 18 Principle in dealing with students, faculty, parents, administration, and community members

Community Pledge

BCS seeks to uphold a community of union and oneness. By agreeing to be employed with our campus, each staff member will agree to abide by the following “I Will” statements below to the best of their ability.

  • I will strive to take my next step toward maturity each day (physically, emotionally, mentally, academically, and spiritually).
  • I will do all things in excellence and to the best of my ability. I will refrain from obsession with results and control the measures I have control over.
  • I will own up to my faults and any wrongs I may make and complete the steps necessary to restore and correct any hurts, wrongs or faults I may have caused or influenced.
  • I will treat every person on this campus with the same respect shown to me by God and with the respect I myself desire to be treated.
  • I will work to strengthen and edify myself, my peers and my school through selfless acts and a posture of love and respect.
  • I will honor every person on campus as someone who is loved by God and holds the same worth, love and value as myself.
  • I will take care of myself in a healthy balance of work, rest, recreation and relationship with others.
  • I will remain open to applying the instruction and lessons taught first by the way of Jesus found in scripture and through the guidance of the staff and counsel of the BCS community.

With these measures lived by and honored we believe that our campus will serve as a light for our surrounding community, and will ensure a training into how to productively and effectively navigate each faculty member’s involvement in an interdependent community. This will be done with prudence and respect, as we seek to continue to walk with a healthy formation of discipleship within our BCS Staff Body.

Responsibilities

  • Attend staff meetings and required professional development trainings and Bible studies as part of responsibilities for upholding campus certification and accreditation standards.
  • Hold a firm, fair, and consistent classroom environment where expectations, rules, and procedures are clearly outlined and explained. Remember to Discipline in private and praise in public.
  • Uphold a classroom atmosphere that is hospitable in nature, uplifting in word, supportive in deed, unified in spirit, and seeks the well-being of each student at all times.
  • Uphold the heart, vision, and mission of the school and have all classroom decisions and activities flow from these tenets.
  • Input lesson plans in Renweb by the start of Monday each week that detail objectives and standards covered, essential questions, types of activities to be participated in and completed, and biblical integration points.
  • Establish and adjust course outlines and objectives by following curriculum guidelines and school goals; modifying plans on the basis of student diagnostic and assessment procedures.
  • Convey information to students by using a variety of best instructional practices.
  • Assess student learning by preparing, administering, and scoring tests; reviewing and correcting assignments; eliciting student questions and responses; evaluating application of learning to classroom project results.
  • Maintain student-learning results by providing instructional feedback; coaching; counseling, and disciplining students; planning, monitoring, and appraising learning results.
  • Maintain records by documenting learning accomplishments (grades), attendance, and behavior in a timely manner.
  • Guide students’ personal, spiritual, and social development by establishing rules and procedures for administrative matters, student verbal participation, and student movement within the classroom, between classrooms, and on campus.
  • Communicate appropriately with parents/guardians about child progress academically, behaviorally, and/or spiritually.
  • Accept responsibility for other assigned duties deemed necessary for the operation of BCS by the administrative team.

    Specifics

    • Full Time Employee
    • Working Hours of 7:30 AM – 3:30 PM
    • Teaching/grade assignment – 2nd Grade Teacher
    • Health insurance and other benefits available
    • Required bachelor’s degree or currently in pursuit of one
    • Preferred teacher certification at a state or accreditation level

    Eagles Updates Newsletter – Sep 8, 2025

    A Note from Mr. Burris

    Dear BCS Family,

September is already here and we are hitting our stride at Brazosport Christian School! I have been talking with many of our teachers and students and there is a very positive outlook on campus as we are now in the full swing of things. One of the exciting points of emphasis has been the gazing upon the God of Bible as a faculty, and then passing what we see to our student body.

Our admin team has been working through Knowing God by J.I. Packer and one of the things he really emphasizes early on in this book is the importance of relationally knowing God even as you dive into the Bible and learn about God. Packer stresses a vital truth in the first two chapters: it’s not enough to simply learn about God—we are called to know Him personally and relationally. This truth is foundational to our mission at BCS. As we pursue academic and spiritual growth, we seek not only to grow in knowledge about God but to grow in relationship with Him.

The English Puritan Stephen Charnock (1628–1680) put it this way:
“A speculative knowledge of God, without the heart’s engagement, is a barren thing.”

Please join us in praying for the students of BCS. Specifically, pray for those who have not yet come to saving faith in Christ—that God would open their eyes and hearts to the gospel. And for those who already know Him, pray for continued spiritual growth—both in their relationship with Christ and in their understanding of the truth revealed in Scripture.

Here’s a powerful reminder from Scripture about the impact Jesus has on the sinner who turns to Christ and comes to know Him as Savior and Lord:
    Philippians 3:7–8
“But whatever gain I had, I counted as loss for the sake of Christ. Indeed, I count everything as loss because of the surpassing worth of knowing Christ Jesus my Lord…”

May this be the heartcry of the students at BCS this year!

As always, let’s behold our God together and rejoice in the privilege of knowing Him—made possible through the saving work of Jesus Christ.

    A Note from Mr. Burris

    Dear BCS Family,

The first few weeks of the school year are behind us at Brazosport Christian School, and it’s already clear that the Lord is moving in powerful ways among our students and staff. The hallways are alive with joy, our classrooms are filled with learning, and our chapel services are rich with biblical truth. It’s a blessing to witness!

As we begin this school year, we’re intentionally focusing on the character of God. This pursuit has already proven to be both humbling and deeply encouraging. Our desire is to see students not only grow in knowledge but also strengthen their walk with the Lord.

Charles Spurgeon once said, in a sermon he preached at the age of 20:
“The highest science, the loftiest speculation, the mightiest philosophy, which can ever engage the attention of a child of God, is the name, the nature, the person, the work, the doings, and the existence of the great God whom he calls his Father.”

We invite you to join us in this pursuit—to grow alongside your children in your knowledge and love of our Creator. Imagine the impact of dinner table conversations where families not only talk about the events of the day, but also about the attributes of God!

Here’s a powerful reminder from Scripture about the role parents play in shaping the faith of the next generation:
    Deuteronomy 6:7
“You shall teach them diligently to your children, and shall talk of them when you sit in your house, and when you walk by the way, and when you lie down, and when you rise.”

You’ve got this! Let this be a year where your family grows stronger in what the Bible says about God and also in your personal faith in Him.

    A Note from Mr. Burris

    Hey BCS Family,

This is a very exciting time of year for each of our families as we launch into the Fall Semester! Our staff has been praying for you and your children to have a season of revival in your walk with the Lord. It has been on my heart to set our gaze upon God throughout this entire school year. Each term we will be focusing on a different theme that will help us to accomplish this goal:

    Term 1- He Is God
    Term 2- We Are His
    Term 3- For His Glory
    Term 4- Proclaim His Name

Our teachers are working through a study throughout the year which highlights the attributes of God and our administrators will be reading Knowing God by JI Packer. I strongly believe that when we see God for who He truly is, as clearly portrayed in the Bible, our worldview will be greatly impacted. Psalm 19:1 says “The heavens declare the glory of God, and the sky above proclaims his handiwork.” My heart’s desire is for our administrators, staff, teachers, students and parents to have that as our aim this year.

John Piper said this in his book God Is The Gospel:
“The ultimate good of the gospel is seeing and savoring the beauty and value of God. ‘Behold Your God!’ is the most gracious command and the best gift of the gospel. If we do not see Him and savor Him as our greatest treasure, we have not obeyed or believed the gospel.”

    Handbook Reminders

Please check out our Student Handbook HERE.

Here you will find information about dress code, grading policies, etc. Below is a reminder from our handbook about our cell phone policy.

    Cell Phones

While cell phones are a common part of everyday life, BCS seeks to foster an environment of student engagement with their peers, teachers, coaches, and staff. As such, the use of personal cell phones on BCS campus will be prohibited.

Grades PK-4: Cell phones will not be allowed. This includes smart watches with cellular service.

Grades 5-12: Cell phone use by students on the BCS campus is prohibited during the school day (between the hours of 7:15 & 3:15). This includes smart watches with cellular service. Students are allowed to be in possession of a cell phone strictly for the purpose of allowing parents to track their child’s location. If a student chooses to bring a cell phone to campus, it will remain stored at all times during the school day, either in a locker, a backpack, or a vehicle. If the use of a cellular device is observed, in any form, the device will be confiscated and the appropriate disciplinary measures will be taken. This rule also applies to the use of headphones/earbuds.

    Medical Necessity Exception

    • A student may be granted permission to carry a cell phone on campus for medical reasons if a parent/guardian provides proper medical documentation to the school administration.
    • Approved cell phones must remain on silent mode and should only be used for medical-related communication.

    Extracurricular Travel Exception

    • A student may be in possession of a cell phone while at, or en route to, a school sponsored event (sports, field trips, etc.). However, the phone shall stay stored away at all times during the extracurricular travel unless use of the cell phone is authorized by the activity sponsor.
