Brazosport Christian School offers a variety of different courses at the high school level, with the intent of helping each student map out a path to graduation that will ultimately lead to the transition from high school into adulthood. Whether our students are looking to head off to college or enter into the workforce, BCS is dedicated to guiding students down the best path to reach their goals.

Schedule

High School students will have an 8-period schedule each day with each class being approximately 45 minutes. Wednesdays and Fridays have an adjusted schedule as students will be required to attend Chapel on Wednesdays and Small Group on Fridays.

Course Offerings

Brazosport Christian School students have several options when it comes to the level of rigor involved in the courses offered in high school.

Standard: Standard courses can be thought of as the “traditional, high-school-level” courses.

Advanced: Advanced courses offer a slightly higher level of difficulty than standard courses and have a slightly higher GPA weighting.

Advanced Placement (AP): AP courses offer college-level rigor and have an associated comprehensive exam taken at the end of the school year.

Dual Credit: Dual credit courses are college courses that provide both high-school and college credits. BCS has agreements in place with LeTourneau University and Brazosport College to offer a variety of dual credit courses to our students.

Advanced, AP, & Dual Credit courses are offered based on classroom space and teacher availability. There may be times when certain courses are not available.

Requirements

All high school students at Brazosport Christian School will be required to have a laptop that they will bring to school each day. Students will be able to access the internet using the school Wi-Fi and will be required to adhere to the Media Policies of the Student Handbook.

Graduation

  • The State of Texas requires a minimum of 22 course credits across various disciplines including: Mathematics, English, Science, Social Studies, Foreign Language, Physical Education, Fine Arts, and Electives.
  • At BCS, the “Foundational Plan” for graduation consists of 29 course credits. The 29 course credits include the 22 required by the State of Texas plus: Bible, Career Foundations, and a Senior Apprenticeship Capstone.
  • The “Distinguished Academic Achievement Plan” includes all 29 credits in the Foundational Plan, with an additional credit in both Mathematics and Science.

Students who transfer to BCS from a public school or homeschool may not be able to meet the Foundational or Distinguished plan requirements. In such cases, BCS will ensure the State of Texas minimum requirements will be adhered to, and incorporate courses from the Foundational or Distinguished plan as appropriate.

Dual Credit

Students who wish to begin taking college courses while still in high school have several options available. BCS offers a variety of dual credit courses on campus with its own faculty teaching the course, and also allows students to take college courses in different modalities (online, hybrid, etc.) from accredited higher education institutions.

Most colleges require that students enroll at the college and meet certain requirements before taking college courses. Students who wish to take dual credit courses should work with the BCS Director of Academics to ensure the college courses they are taking off campus will apply as dual credit.
